Attending, first Islamic trading exhibition, Jeda, Saudia Arabia 2001.Participated in workshop on promotion of fertilizer industry in the Sudan, Dec. 19, 2006.Participated in a conference for White Nile Sugar Project (WNSP), 2006.Consultancy workAdvisory work was done in Sudan for new sugar projects namely White Nile Project and Elridais New project, in addition to Kenya and currently involved in consultancy work(Prefeasibility study in Nigeria for establishing new sugarcane plantation schemes) .The following is a summary of achievements and activities1. Nutrition of sugarcane:Initiated trials to determine requirement of sugar cane for nitrogen. Actual requirements recommended and adopted currently in the Estate.Initiated trials to determine requirements of sugar cane for phosphorus fertilizer and actual requirements recommended currently adopted in the Estate. After a series of experiments, it was recommended to do without Potash which was previously applied in the estate. This saving considerable amount of money for Kenana.Trace elements investigation is under way.Investigations are continued for varieties nutritional requirements of late ratoon.Completed recently studies on the physical and chemical changes that occurred in Kenana soil as a result of sugarcane continuous mono cropping, and the impact of irrigation water quality on soil chemistry.Recommended use of compound fertilizers Nitrophoska and Ammonium sulphate nitrate as alternative options in sugarcane fields.Recommended reduction of Nitrogen rate from 92 Kg N/F to 69 Kg N /F for cane planted in a fallow land.Recommended 69 Kg N /F (3 bags of urea) for first and second cane ratoon and 80 kg N/F(3.5 bags of urea) for third and forth ratoon cycles.2. Cultural Practices :Investigations showed that inter-row ripping in ratoon fields could be stopped thus saving money for the Estate.Determined optimum row spacing for cane and recommendation adopted and yield increase anticipated (The row spacing was changed from 1.67m to 1.55m).Recommended the best and economical planting method for sugarcane.Membership of CommitteesMember of the Sudanese Sugar Technologist (SSTA) Sudan.Secretary of the Agricultural Joint Committee of Kenana Sugar Co.
